Interesting video clip and most relevant to this topic, is a talk made by 'vaccine genius ' Bill Gates back in 2005.

In this clip he shows brain scans of individuals who have either belief in God and those who don't.
He then goes on to explain that his foundation have been working on respiratory viruses and through vaccines to be used in the Middle East to "turn a religious fanatic into a normal person" or more accurately to destroy the God-head concept in man.

Yes, throughout my life I have had a gnawing sense of anxiety about of the futility and pointlessness of life. We are here by pure chance alone and each and every one of us is so meaningless and insignificant in cosmic terms. Pale Blue Dot by Carl Sagan really helps to put life on Earth into perspective.

I have been an existentialist for most of my life and struggled to find purpose and meaning in my life. I think hobbies and pastimes are very important and can help to take the mind off the doom and dread of death.

I certainly dont think about the futility of existence when West Ham concede yet another goal on a Saturday. Or maybe I do? Haha

In it's very basic form procreation and continuation has been said, but best to find some ideals, hobbies and pastimes to make you feel nice about yourself and those around you to distract you from dwelling on what a tiny insignificant speck of fecal matter you are and that you can, and indeed will, be flushed from the toilet bowl of existence at any time.

I died 5 years ago after choking on a pork scratching (never ate them since) and had an experience of the afterlife, so I am a bit of an expert on this subject. Long story short God basically called me a cunt , I told her to go fuck himself and she put nut on me. Woke up in hospital and have been a Muslim ever since.

Scariest thing about the JW's for me is the fact that they have a GARGANTUAN UK headquarters not that far from me. Like a small town it is, apparently even has it's own hospital. Weird fuckers that lot.

To be fair I don't mind a Jehovah knocking on the door. If you politely tell them that they are wasting their time they will soon pester your neighbour instead. Not half as bad as the cunt who was trying to get me to switch broadband to help me pay his rent. I had to tell him to fuck off to get rid.

The JW's view of obedience to the secular authorities meant that they weren't allowed to resist, or even evade, the Nazis putting them into concentration camps.

Mormonism and Scientology differ from the JW's in that the JW's effective founder, Charles Taze Russell was already stinking rich before he started the JW's forerunner, and this was a sink, rather than a source of wealth, at least initially.

I have read about Mormonism, Jehovah's Witnesses and Scientology recently. The underpinning tenets of all three of these faiths are clearly a pack of lies. This is probably the same as when the three Abrahamic monotheisms were invented. Great ways of making money but all absolute made up bollocks.

Does this prove there is no God? Unfortunately no, nothing can. But it does prove there are a lot of brain washed and gullible people walking around out there.

I kind of agree Fiff.

Also the sort of stuff that often gets laughed at by us laymen like parallel universes, time travel, simulation theory etc. is (perhaps surprisingly) seriously studied. A lot of this stuff is superficially just as unbelievable/ridiculous as there being a "god".

As I said I'm an atheist but I've got no problem admitting that I ain't got a fucking clue how the universe started and imo unless you're personally involved in astrophysics or whatever it's a bit silly to say you DEFINITELY KNOW your own theory is correct while mocking religious people for being stupid to believe what they do.

I'm aware atheism is not necessarily Equivalent to belief in big bang theory. Indeed I already alluded to that ie I am not atheist and I accept evolution because the scientific evidence is overwhelming.

My point re BBT is that the bbt hypothesis is often used by atheists to say bbt means there is no God. It proves nothing of the sort. A belief that the existence of the physical universe can be explained without reference to a higher power is a belief... You're attributing a natural phenomenon to an unknown power or source that cannot be proven practically or even theoretically.

Your assumption is that there is no "evidence" for God. I disagree. I was atheist and after doing a lot of reading concluded that it did not convince me as an explanation of life. But WHO is not the place for long philosophical discussions.

If one day there is proof/explanation of some of those concepts then I'm open to changing my belief based on that evidence.

Its interesting how some atheists get offended and try to be offensive about theists. To me that always betrays insecurity and a closed mind, in the same way that some theists try to ridicule atheists. Its a bit childish.

To quote my first post ""I believe there is something, whether that be a power/force/God bigger than the human mind can comprehend", which I totally stand by.

The different religions/texts is an interesting one. My personal opinion is that this is because many people have interpreted things in different ways. Whenever I am asked if I have a faith/religion or not, the answer would be yes I am a Christian. However I do not believe the Bible word for word and am certainly not somebody who would dismiss views of people from different faiths or with no faith at all. In many cases, especially as people of the same faith cannot agree most of the time.

Regarding life after death, presumably those who believe in it do so because they like the idea of it, and it makes them feel better about death. Fair enough if that’s the case, but knowing that’s how they’ve based their decision how can they convince themselves of what was their own charade in the first place?

Anyway, even the science gets to that point eventually. Multiverse theory, simulation theory... at some point you take a punt on one, probably the one you like the sound of most. And why not? It’s fun to think about but question itself is too huge for us to comprehend, and the answer will likely always be beyond our capabilities. So everyone should just have a beer and chill out.

No, not yet, but we're going to keep probing, investigating, theorising, proving and disproving and maybe one day we will.

It's insane, in the absence of such knowledge, to believe in a concept which hasn't a shred of evidence to support it.

If you believe in God, you're either indoctrinated, severely troubled, scraed of death, or just a bit simple.
